Before his election to City Council, Michael worked as a high school teacher in Richmond, specializing in environmental sciences, biology, and outdoor education. His teaching career provided him with valuable insight into the needs and aspirations of Richmond’s younger generation. As an educator, he inspired students to think critically about sustainability and community engagement, fostering a sense of responsibility for the world around them.
In addition to his teaching career, Michael was an active community advocate. He volunteered with numerous environmental organizations, championing causes such as the protection of Richmond’s wetlands, urban forests, and agricultural land reserve (ALR). His advocacy extended to grassroots initiatives, where he collaborated with residents to address local challenges and promote civic engagement.
